Angelo Borrelli, head of public safety, announced the death toll on Wednesday evening, the Associated Press news agency reported.

Rescuers worked all night pushing the huge amount of concrete that fell more than 150 feet to the ground, hoping to find a survivor.
Officials said earlier Wednesday that 16 people were reportedly injured, and at least two were missing. They did not give any further figures on injuries and did not say that the recent increase in mortality was due to missing persons.
Separately, Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini says three children are among the dead.
A fire department spokeswoman, Luca Cari, said 400 firefighters were on the ground piled up concrete chunks so rescue teams could search for survivors. Since Tuesday, a total of 1,000 rescue workers are in action.
At least 20 vehicles were involved in the collapse, said Deputy Transport Minister Edoardo Rixi, and the disaster had hit the people in the building below.
The collapsed Morandi Bridge is part of the A10 motorway, near the city center. The fall occurred in heavy rain in the region on Tuesday at 11.30 clock local time.
"There is no reason to regard the bridge as dangerous"
The director general of Austrade for Genoa said on Tuesday evening that it was too fast to determine the cause of the fall.
"There is no reason to consider the bridge dangerous," he said.
