Rob admits he loves jazz fusion and thrives from there, especially Jaco Pastorius who he thinks "Hearing it like first heard Eddie Van Halen play 'Eruption', you'd think 'What instrument is that?' Jaco is funk, rock and soul. And punk. "
Growing up on Venice's beach "Dog Town", his youth often played Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Rush songs at small parties. Enter jazz school at the age of 19 and want to be a recording musician, despite his love for rock and metal.
Careers
Through high school friends, Rocky George (guitarist Suicidal Tendencies), Rob knew Mike Muir and joined the group until the mid-1990s. In the 4th album Suicidal Tendencies in 1989 Controlled by Hatred / Feel Like Shit ... Deja Vu , Rob's name is disguised as Stymee. While in ST, Rob and Mike Muir also run the Infectious Grooves side project.
Rob has been a member of the band Ozzy Osbourne several years since the 1990s. He became controversial when playing Bob Daisley's bass track for Ozzy Osbourne's Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman reprints because Daisley felt he did not receive proper royalties. In this period Rob also formed an experimental supergroup, Mass Mental, along with Benji Webbe (later Dub War member) who is ragga-punk-metal. The band released 1 studio album (exclusive in Japan) and one live album, during a concert in Tokyo before disbanding. Zakk Wylde, a friend and a friend of the band while participating in Ozzy, also occasionally recruited Rob to play with the Black Label Society in their show.
Log in as a member of Metallica formally February 24, 2003. Earlier she and Suicidal Tendencies had met as Metallica's opening band on the Nowhere Else to Roam tour of 1993 and on the Shit Hits the Sheds tour the following year. Since then Rob befriended Kirk Hammett because both have the same hobby of surfing . Rob auditioned after being called Metallica on vacation. In the auditions shown in the Metallica Some Kind of Monster documentary, Rob wanted to play a Battery song that made Lars Ulrich ask, "You're so fast?" And then play the song, Fo Whom the Bell Tolls, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), Sad But True, etc. While playing Whiplash, Kirk was amazed by the skills of Rob's finger that was judged to be "only seen since Cliff (Burton)."
Acting
Trujillo has several roles in film and television. Role without dialogue in the 1978 film Walter Matthau House Calls , and a small role in the movie Scout's Honor, a movie made for Gary Coleman in 1980. He also plays the character 'Flippy' in the tv drama series CHiPs. 1992 appeared with members of his band Infectious Grooves in the movie Brendan Fraser Encino Man .
Personal life
Rob is married to Chloe, and has a son, Ty, and a woman, Lula. Before dating, Chloe is a pyrography artist (wood burn) that makes Aztec calendar design on Rob bass. Seven years later, upon hearing Chloe move to LA, Rob called from his place on a surfing holiday in Tahiti, trying to get in touch.
Other Projects
In 2012, Trujillo produced a documentary film about Jaco Pastorius titled Jaco , directed by Stephen Kijak.
Technique
Rob's main technique is finger-style, but sometimes it also uses picks in some recordings and during a gig. Rob is known to play 'massive chords' and 'chord-based harmonics' on bass. While still in Infectous Grooves, Rob is known to often use the technique of slap bass . This technique also often appears when performing a solo bass playing 'Jungle Essence' when on tour with Metallica.
For recording purposes, Rob uses his own code to write bass arrangements. Inspired by Pino Palladino's article, he developed it while recording with Jerry Cantrell working on Degradation Trip .
