Finland's LURK "Furrow" the Earth With Their Mixture of Doom and Sludge

http://lambcastol.blogspot.com/
There has to be something in the water in Finland. How does a country continue to churn out such great music for so many years? The Northern European nation is a well of creativity in the world of heavy music. Yet another example is the Tampere quartet, Lurk. The band celebrates 10 years of existence this year, and they're doing it in a rather thunderous way. Their third full-length album, Fringe, is a riveting amalgamation of various subgenres of metal. Doom, sludge, black, and death metal all find their way into the album's eight tracks.

One song particular, "Furrow," does an exceptional job of bringing together sludge's murky groove and the menacing lurch of death doom. At just short of five minutes, it's a condensed dose of what Lurk does well: seamlessly weave together various tropes of different genres. In "Furrow" the group switches between a galloping riff and crawling rhythm with deep growls. It keeps a listener on their toes and, holistically, keeps breathing new life into the track with each play.
