"Our city has suffered severe damage but loss of life. "
The fire has destroyed 27 structures in the area of Telegraph Creek, representing 30 to 45 percent of the buildings in the small community Northwest of British Columbia, according to the head of the local First Nations.
Team leader Tahltan Rick McLean said in a video posted to Facebook on Tuesday that the city has suffered significant damage, but fortunately there are lives that are lost.
"You know what, that is the ... is our society. Stay tough, we will rely on each other and we will try to continue to fight against the best that we can, "says McLean, in an emotional speech.
They do not know the structure demolished, McLean said in a video shot at Dease Lake Community Hall on Thursday night and placed in a Facebook group created to distribute information about the fire.
Rick Boehm, an emergency program Coordinator at the Kitimat-Stikine regional district, said two major fires in Telegraph was on the evening of Tuesday may be combined to make 150 square kilometres in a blaze.
He and McLean both say 27 structures have been lost to the fire.
