Metallica, that's how the world calls it, the band that entered the Underground scene in the early 1980s, Metallica is a giant mainstream band. At that time, with a massive sales album reaching 57 million copies in America and reaching 35 million copies out of America is indeed a feat that is awesome and extraordinary. Metallica was first established in Los Angeles - United States under the name The Young of Metal Attack. A few months later the group changed its name to Metallica which is said to be a combination of Metal and Vodca. The name Metallica itself is actually a proposed name for a music magazine stolen by Lars Ulrich before the magazine gets its name.
The band's early history began in California in 1981, by drummer Lars Ulrich and guitarist / vocalist James Hetfield. bassist Ron McGovny then joined and followed Dave Mustaine. McGovney quit the band after a conflict with Mustaine and his position was replaced by Cliff Burton. Mustaine's aggressive and often problematic nature with drugs and alcohol resulted in him being fired by Ulrich and Hetfield. His position is filled with Kirk Hammet (ex guitarist Exodus), a disciple of Joe Satriani. After leaving the band, Mustaine then formed Megadeth. The band got its name when Ulrich was invited to a Metal San Francisco promoter, named Ron Quintana, to help pick a name from his list to be named for his new magazine. In the list there is the name Metallica. Ulrich suggested Metal Mania to mejalah Quintana and chose Metallica for the band he just formed. Together with Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax, Metallica was one of four thrash metal figures in the 1980s. These four bands became the metal giants of their era with their own skills and trademarks.
The first album "Kill 'Em All" was released in 1983 with Megaforce company. This first album became an example of Metallica's basic sound for the 1980s with distinctive vocals and heavy rhythms from Hetfield. In the debut of this first album, James Hetfield's vocals are still loud, his shouts are still shrill and not heavy, so Metalnya feels more "Trash". For the "beginner" listener in the Metal world maybe the songs on this album can not be enjoyed, although in melodies especially in the songs Motorbreath, Jump in the fire and Seek and Destroy is very nice for "head banger". Overall, the songs on the album "Kill 'Em All" rhythmically rhythmically with the guitar playing of Kirk and Lars drum thumps are very prominent.
In 1984 Metallica released a second album titled "Ride the Lightning". What's interesting about this album is ... there is one instrumental song called "The Call of Ktulu" and the song "slow" titled "Fade To Black" whose rhythm feels different from other Metallica songs. But overall the songs on this second album still features a fast guitar game and drum-powered beats with a loud scream accompanied vocalist. The third album titled "Muster of Puppets" was released in 1985 after previously signed a contract with Elektra Records. The songs on this album despite the rhythm more thrash from the previous two albums but very "good" for listeners and the music can be digumakan for nge- "head banger". Kirk Hammett's guitar game is very powerful on this album, James Hetfield's shout is also getting heavier and drummer Lars Ulrich drum feels faster stomping but cliff bass of Cliff Burton not so visible because it is covered with awesomeness Kirk guitar.
Metallica flew a half-masted flag during a tour of Europe in 1986, when Metallica mourned as bassist Cliff Burton died in Sweden in a bus accident, after Cliff Bassist's position was replaced by Jason Newstead. Entering the year 1988 they made "... And Justice for All" with more complex music than previous albums. ... And Justice for all was nominated for Grammy in Best Hard Rock / Metal Performance Vocal or Instrument category but the Grammy award was won and fell into the hands of Jethro Tull. In the following year Metallica just won the Grammy Award. The impact of the award is then Video "One" played continuously by MTV.
The album titled "Metallica" is often called The Black Album released 1991 by targeting a much broader audience. Album reach no. 1 in Billboard and certified platinum within a few weeks. The album became Metallica's most popular album and her hit "Enter Sandman" became Metallica's most widely known song. And even a must-have song for the heavy Fans from Metallica. Then in "Load" (1996) and "ReLoad" (1997), fast metal tempo replaced with bluesy guitar tones, slide guitar and steel guitar games, hurdy-gurdy and violin. Some fans quipped them as Poptalica, Alternica and even Lica alone. For their next album, they cover songs from a number of artists that influenced them, from The Misfits, Thin Lizzy, Black Sabbath to Nick Cave and Bob Seger. In 1999, Metallica was inducted into the San Francisco Walk of Fame and the following month, they recorded two shows with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and released them under the title S & M. Jason Newsted left Metallica in 2001.
Interviews revealed his resignation was due to his desire to make a CD and tour with his personal band, Echobrain, but the wish was always intercepted by Hetfield. After Newsted out of position replaced Robert Trujillo, ex bassist Suicidal Tendencies who also played with the band Ozzy Osbourne, Infectious Grooves and Black Label Society. While Newsted later joined Canadian legendary thrash metal band Voivod, and in an interesting position replaced Trujillo in Ozzfest 2003.
Metallica created controversy by demanding Napster, whose 300,000 members sold the entire Metallica song catalog on the site. They also demanded that some universities allow Napster to be operated on campus. The prosecution resulted in the ridicule of a number of sites that said the band that started his career from the underground scene that often traded live bootleg recordings had become a mercenary eye. Metallica replied what they were questioning was the illegal trade in their studio material, not bootleg live. After releasing the album "Reload", Metallica not long enough to release the album due to too many problems surrounding the personnel. From the release of the bassist Jason Newsted until the entry of vocalist James Hetfield to drug dependency rehab and legal issues with Napster made Metallica just ngerilis the next album in 2003. Their eighth album, "St. Anger" (2003), climbed to no. 1 in the chart. The album is rough and un-polished to respond to the party that Metallica claims has lost their violent sound. However, a rough sound that without much guitar solo is criticized fans who do not like it. Used CD shops were flooded with CDs sold by disappointed fans.
Despite criticism, St. Anger won the 2004 Grammy. In 2006, Metallica ended a 15-year collaboration with producer Bob Rock and formed a new partnership with legendary producer Rick Rubin, who regularly handles Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Weezer, Audioslave, Slipknot, System of a Down, Johnny Cash, LL Cool J, Jay-Z and Slayer. Although the band is rumored to be dispersed but its existence still exists and feels in the world metal music scene. "I applaud the Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath and Aerosmith that are still active today, but the problem is the Rolling Stones music is not as heavy as Metallica music," Lars said. "Metallica has the potential to stay active for a long time , but do not know anymore if my hands, feet and back have started to complain, "he continued.
