They predict 80% of heart attacks and strokes in people under 75 can be prevented if heart health improves.
An unhealthy lifestyle puts four out of five adults at risk of premature death, they estimate.
People must stop smoking, eat healthy food and exercise enough.
This test is not diagnostic - it will not tell you whether you will have a heart attack - but it can be a wake-up call to make healthy changes.
David Green, 59, took the exam.
"The worst time is being told that my heart is 10 years older than me and my life expectancy is shortened," he told the BBC.
"It took some definite expectations, but I turned it into positive facts to do something to reverse the scenario."
David took the test after he struggled to take training for his role at The Full Monty with his local theater company in Plymouth.
He had never heard a heartbeat, but said he would guess he was only a few years old.
"I am 59 years old now so I think 'oh maybe it will be 62 or 63', so for 10 years - that's really a surprise.
"They told me that 'you really have to do something if not, you won't see a lot of your retirement'.
"I think it's the main thing for me, I just retired, I want to live longer, thank you very much."
Obesity, poor diet, lack of exercise and high blood pressure are important risk factors for the heart that can be changed.
