It turned out that 1 person could not come, and the ticket was given to Lars who was not even 10 years. Amazed by the band's performance, Lars bought the Fireball album the next day. The concert and the album had a huge influence on Lars Ulrich , inspired him into the world of rock n 'roll and finally, heavy metal. Knowing his interest in music, when Lars was 12 years old his grandmother gave the gift of the first drum kit, Ludwig.
Since his father and male cousins were playing tennis, Lars Ulrich was encouraged to improve his skills and eventually moved to the United States in 1980. Then he tried to enter the backstage , met the band and explained how far he came from for the concert. He spoke with their vocalist Sean Harris, and then the band's guitarist Brian Tatler allowed Lars to stay with him at Stourbridge, where for a few weeks Lars slept on the floor of his house. This was an important time for Lars, as he witnessed the process of song creation and songwriting by Diamond Head Sean Harris and Brian Tatler. This experience gave him provision in the creation and preparation of Metallica's albums in the future. Lars is known as a pioneer in thrash metal thrash metal drumming techniques. He often uses a double bass technique in the style of 'Latin breakbeats' (influenced by his Motorhead Overkill) which later became popular among heavy metal drummers. Examples of this can be found in Metal Militia ( Kill 'Em All ) album, Fight Fire with Fire ( Ride the Lightning ), Battery and Damage Inc. ( Master of Puppets ), Blackened, One, and Dyers Eve ( ... And Justice for All ), That Was Just Your Life and All Nightmare Long ( Death Magnetic ). His drumming technique is so famous in the song 'One' ( ... And Justice For All ) and the opening of the song 'Enter Sandman' ( Metallica ). Since the release of Metallica's album, Lars further simplified the style ngedrumnya, and reduce the drum device, from 9 units to 7 units. But the style of the game back gahar since the album Death Magnetic, and also still seen playing double bass drum in their new song in 2014 'The Lords of Summer'.
Lars also contributed to the opening of the song 'Leper Messiah' and also performed 4 counts in Danish in the videoclip of the song 'St. Anger '. In addition he also sang on the bridge part of the song '53rd & 3rd' in the compilation album We're A Happy Family: A Tribute to Ramones .
Lars's acting debut was performed in HBO's' Hemingway & Gellhorn 'HBO production film which was shot in March 2011 and released May 28, 2012. Ulrich also appeared as a cameo as himself in the movie' Get Him to the Greek, as Jackie's character partner Q. In 2012 also Lars became the focus in the documentary film 'Mission to Lars'. Kate and Will Spicer's films tell of their journey with their brother, Tom, who lives in Devon, England, suffering from Fragile X Syndrome, who tried to meet Lars at one of Metallica's 2009 concerts in California. In 2013 Lars is also 'little' acting in Metallica's latest film, 'Through The Never' , and at the end of the 20th of 15 Lars appeared in the comedy film The Radio Dreams.
Lars is also ranked 5th in 5 metal top drummers from That Metal Show .
Napster controversy
April 2000, Lars represents Metallica facing the Napster file-sharing website, suing the company for copyright infringement and 'racketeering' business deals. In July 2000, he testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee after finding all the Metallica catalogs, including the unfinished 'I Disappear' song, can be downloaded for free in Napster services. They demanded $ 10 million in compensation or an average of $ 100,000 per downloaded song. This spawned a new call for him: 'Lar $', as well as the nickname 'Sell Out' (commercially, not independent) to the Metallica band. The case was settled peacefully, meaning no compensation was paid, but Napster was asked to do the blocking to 300,000 users. This case has led to some angry Metallica fans who do fuel action collection in front of the court, but on the other hand Lars is also supported by some other artists. Noted artist Jay-Z has also filed a lawsuit.
Style Games
Lars drum game has changed over the course of his career. The 1980s were known for fast and aggressive beats .
Lars has a habit of ngedrumnya style, including fast and clean double-bass beat and drum stuffing that is classified as 'heavy'. His game is known to be often in sync with rhythm guitar from James Hetfield. However, between the '90s and' 90s, he simplified the drum rhythm in keeping with the simplification of Metallica's songs at the time. This then draws criticism over his musical abilities. Especially begins since the album Metallica or The Black Album , until the release of the album St. Anger . In their ninth original album, Death Magnetic , Lars tried to return to the 1980s style, with more complex games and fast rhythms.
Personal life
Lars was married twice. The first was in 1988 with Debbie Jones, the British woman he met while on tour, but divorced in 1990 while working on a Metallica album. The second marriage to Skylar Satenstein, former actor girlfriend Matt Damon, in the 1997-2004 period. They were blessed with two children, Myles (born 1998), and Layne (born 2001). Myles follows Lars's footsteps by playing drums for the band My Missing Half.
Lars then dated the Danish actress Connie Nielsen from mid 2004 to 2012. From this relationship was born a boy Bryce Thadeus Ulrich-Nielsen in 2007 in San Francisco. When meeting Lars, Nielsen already had a son named Sebastian (born 1991). Lars is currently engaged to Jessica Miller's model.
Ulrich has a penchant for collecting art. His father, Torben, is also an art lover and painting. Lars grew up surrounded by art and music. After forming Metallica, he often visited museums and art galleries on the sidelines of the tour schedule. In a 2002 interview Lars revealed: "I think I can drown in art and run away from musical affairs. It's a great hideaway. "
When Metallica was ordained as Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009, Lars was the first Dane to receive this award. Lars befriends Noel Gallagher and becomes one of Noel's fans, Oasis , and declares that Noel is an inspiration for him to stop using cocaine in 2008. Lars also expressed his desire to one day be able to play drums in Noel Gallagher's current band, High Flying Birds .
